Bear at Wildheart Animal Sanctuary

Wildheart Animal Sanctuary

Wildheart Animal Sanctuary

Home to the only brown bears on the South Coast, Wildheart Animal Sanctuary is somewhere you’ll want to make sure you visit whilst on the Isle of Wight. They rescue animals from all over the world and bring them to their Sanctuary by the sea to live out the rest of their days in their forever home.

The most recent, most ambitious rescue project, Benji and Balu, is two European brown bears. Rescued from a tiny concrete cage, on the side of a restaurant in Azerbaijan, these brothers are finally getting the chance to learn how to be bears. They have experienced grass, open water, an open sky and lots of new foods for the first time in their entire life. This is a great time to come and see them settling in from our state-of-the-art bear rescue centre, watch from above, overlooking their habitat through a glass floor, or come face to face with a bear through the downstairs windows.

That’s not all, Wildheart is home to many other species, from impressive tigers to boisterous goats. Our sustainable, bamboo, lemur dome is a great hit, take a walk with the lemurs without any barriers. You can also stick around to listen to our daily animal talks. Enjoy a day learning about all the animals and their stories, followed by tasty refreshments in our award-winning café, or amble over the road to the beach for a bit of sea air.

As a registered charity, every visit helps us with our animal care and future rescues. Not only do you get a great day out, but you also get to be a part of something meaningful.
