Princetown & Tavistock Day Trip

Princetown & Tavistock Day Trip

Princetown and Tavistock Market Day Out

Princetown
Princetown is the highest village within Dartmoor National Park. It is the home of Dartmoor Prison, once incarcerating category A criminals such as the Kray brothers. But Princetown is now known for a good many other, more pleasant assets. It is the home of Dartmoor Brewery which makes such beers as Jail Ale and Dartmoor IPA.

It’s worth a trip to the High Moorland Visitor Centre right in the centre of the village. Here you can purchase maps, find out what events are taking place and check the military firing times too!

There are a good few places to eat in Tavistown: try the Fox Tor Cafe which, in addition to hearty local food, can hook you up with a walking or cycling guide, should you need one. Discover Dartmoor’s unique landscape, wildlife, history and development - from prehistoric times to the present day. The Dartmoor Prison Museum is also worth a visit.

Tavistock
Tavistock is the birthplace of local hero Sir Francis Drake. The town has a long history which can be explored on a visit to the Tavistock Museum.

Today Tavistock boasts many attractions and a large mixed locally owned shopping area with a pannier market open almost everyday and regular farmers markets held in the town square that sell various locally grown vegetables, rare breed meats and locally made items.
