Suggested Brain Exercises & Puzzles for Seniors & Families
While the nation is in a state of lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are all finding new ways to keep ourselves entertained and healthy. So, Daish’s Holidays thought we would put together some ideas for everyone to enjoy. From brain exercises and puzzles for seniors to in-home exercises and virtual tours the entire family will find interesting, who says being at home can’t be fun?
Brainteasers & Board Games to Keep Your Mind Sharp
There are plenty of ways to keep your mind occupied and active with Brainteasers and Board Games. Many people love the daily challenge of a word search, crossword, or sudoku puzzle. Dictionary.com posts a new crossword challenge every day, while Sudoku.com offers a multitude of puzzles online. If you’re a more visual person, perhaps it’s time to revisit a favourite jigsaw puzzle. If you’re not alone in your social distancing, consider bringing out the classic board games, such as Monopoly or Scrabble, and see who’s up for some friendly competition!
Exercises to Help You Stay Physically Fit and Healthy
Even though we need to stay at home, there are still plenty of ways to get daily exercise and stay fit. The National Health Service (NHS) suggests adults aged 19-64 should spend at least 150 minutes per week engaging in moderate-level intensity workouts or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity. The good news is many of these exercises can be done safely inside your home, including dancing, riding an exercise bike, or walking on a treadmill. If you have a pool in your backyard, water aerobics and swimming make exercise feel less like work. The NHS also suggests adults over 65 try to remain active every day. Staying physically fit reduces your risk for injuries and illnesses caused by inactivity. Light activity for a senior could be anything as simple as making a cup of tea to getting up and doing some light housekeeping.
Express Your Creative Side or Explore Art Museums Online

If you’re not quite ready to release your inner Picasso on the world just yet, you can tour the Louvre, The British Museum, and The Van Gogh Museum virtually from the convenience of your own home.
