At the Bournemouth Sands Hotel we aim to offer great customer service and high levels of hospitality to all our guests. We hope you find this access information useful and that it helps make your stay here at he the Bournemouth Sands Hotel an enjoyable one.
We are aware that everyone’s needs are different, so if there is any detail you are looking for that is not covered in the information below, then please do get in touch and we will be happy to help. And of course, our friendly and experienced team will be on hand to assist you at any point during your stay with us.

Directions to the hotel

By car: follow the A31 past Ringwood and then take the A338 to Bournemouth. At the second roundabout take the 1st exit, follow the road up the hill and go straight over the first roundabout. At the next roundabout take the first exit and then turn immediately right and you will find us.
By Rail: The train station is located approx. 2 miles from the hotel. There are both taxis and a bus (50) that you can catch to the hotel. Bus stop (Savoy Hotel stop) is approx. 2 min walk from the hotel.
By Bus: You can catch a bus to the Bournemouth Travel Interchange and catch a taxi or local bus to the hotel. Bus stop (Savoy Hotel stop) is approx. 2 min walk from the hotel

Access Points

The main entrance to the hotel is via 8 steps (each step approx. 6 inches high).
There is also access to the hotel via a 4 person lift from the lower ground floor. To get to the lift there is a slight slope near the entrance of the hotel you then walk through a corridor and catch the lift from the lower ground floor to reception. The lift size is approx. 1m x 1m.
The coffee shop, ballroom and lounges are all located on the ground floor of the hotel and are accessible via the front steps or lift access.
The restaurant is located on the lower ground floor. From reception level (ground floor) down to the restaurant there are 17 steps or you can use the lift down to the restaurant (lower ground floor).
The hotel is spread over 5 floors with lift access to 63 rooms. A further 11 rooms are accessible by the lift but do have 4 steps down and 4 steps back up. The remaining 3 rooms are located on the lower ground floor and have 10 steps down to them and are not accessible by the lift.
Parking is available at both the front ( 26 spaces) and rear ( 6 spaces) of the hotel

When you arrive at the hotel

Parking is mainly available (26 spaces) at the front of the hotel and cars sometimes need to double park one car in front of another to maximise car parking spaces. We ask guests that park their car behind other cars in the car park to leave their keys at reception in case we need to move their car to let other guest cars out.
As you enter via the front steps the hotel the reception is immediately on your left hand side and the lift is located directly opposite reception.
From the main hotel entrance you can walk straight through to the ballroom. On your right hand side is the bar area and to your left at the end of the ballroom is our coffee shop. (open daily 10.30am till 4.30pm).
On arrival days case porters will be here to assist you with any luggage you may have and will take the luggage directly to your room for you. This applies to all coaches or self-drives arriving.

Reception Area

The floor is carpeted and well lit.
The reception area is all on one level with the lift opposite.
All our staff are always available to help you check in.
Reception is manned 24 hours a day.

Public areas

The ballroom, outside terrace, coffee shop public toilets pool room and lounges are all on the ground floor level.
The hotel is spread over 5 floors with lift access to 63 rooms. A further 11 rooms are accessible by the lift but do have 4 steps down and 4 steps back up. The remaining 3 rooms are located on the lower ground floor and have 10 steps down to them and are not accessible by the lift.
The restaurant is on the lower ground floor accessible by the lift or down 17 steps.
Background music is played in the reception area until 5pm and then in the ballroom from 5pm albeit at a low level.
There is nightly entertainment in the ballroom which is where the bar is also positioned. If you prefer not to watch the entertainment you can make use of 2 quiet lounges or the coffee shop which has additional seating.
All doors in these areas are on auto closers and all fire exits are connected to the fire alarm system.

Accommodation

There are 6 rooms on the ground floor with level access.
We do not have any wet rooms or adapted bathrooms but most are fitted with grab rails where possible.
There is a lift that services the other 4 floors as already explained above.
Telephones are available in most rooms with only internal calls available.
Some rooms have hairdryers but most do not so can be collected from reception during your stay.

Fire Alarm

The fire alarm is a high pitched, loud siren alarm.
Deaf guards for those with impaired hearing are available at the reception desk as well as notes made on the evacuation list.
Emergency evacuation plans are available on the backs of all of the doors in all of the rooms. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself for you own safety.
For those with mobility issues please inform reception on arrival and we will make a note on the evacuation list and add this to our evacuation procedure.
All fire exits are alarmed and there are breakable fire points throughout the building

Additional Information

All information such as menus, bedroom information and tariffs can be printed in larger fonts if required. Small dogs are permitted to stay if arranged by prior appointment. Mobility scooters can be hired at the reception front desk. We have some raised toilet seats and shower stools at the hotel. If you require specialist equipment we can try to hire from a local mobility shop just ask at reception.

We have tried to be as accurate and comprehensive as possible in the preparation of this accessibility guide and are always willing to give further information about any other aspect of the hotel.
