Russell Hotel Accessibility Guide


At the Russell Hotel we aim to offer high levels of hospitality to all our guests. We hope you will find this access information useful and that it helps to make your visit an enjoyable one.

We are aware that everyone’s needs are different, so if there is any detail you are looking for that is not covered in the information below, then please do get in touch and we will be happy to help. And of course, our friendly and experienced team will be on hand to assist you at any point during your stay with us.

Directions to the hotel

By car: Follow A35 or A37 to Dorchester and then take A354 to Weymouth.
Follow road to Weymouth seafront and then you will come to Esplanade.
Parking is at the rear of the hotel.
By rail or bus: The train and bus stations are located near the town centre behind the hotels. It is a level walk circa 5-10 minutes. There are also taxi ranks located conveniently by both stations.
Our postcode is DT4 7NG.

Some General Points on Access

The entrance at the front of the hotel has 6 steps.
Our coffee shop bar and lounge area are all on one level and are accessible from the main entrance.
The hotel is spread over five floors with lift access to all floors.
The restaurant, bar and ballroom are on the lower ground floor all accessible by the lift and stairs.
Parking is to the rear of the hotel.

When you arrive at the hotel

There is parking available at the front of the hotel for blue badge holders.
Alternatively our car parking is to the rear of the hotel.
From the rear of the hotel you can access a level entrance in the rear of the Russell Hotel. Here you can then access a lift to the ground floor which is a short walk to the main reception. Alternatively there is a small stair case leading into the main reception area.
Porters will be on hand to help with luggage for arrivals and departures, from both coach and cars.

Our Reception Area

The floor is carpeted and well lit.
The reception area is all on one level, with a lift opposite the reception desk.
Our staff are always available to help you with check-in.

Public Areas

The coffee shop bar, lounge area, and lavatories are all on one level.
The lift serves all five floors, with three rooms only accessible from a flight of stairs.
Background music does play, albeit at a low level.
There is nightly entertainment in the ballroom which also has a bar, and if you fancy a change of scenery you are more than welcome to go next door and enjoy the entertainment in the Prince Regent hotel located on the ground floor a short walk from reception.
Most doors in these areas are on auto closures connected to the fire alarm system.

Accommodation

There are twenty two rooms located on the ground floor with level or ramp access.
We do not have adapted bathrooms but many are fitted with grab rails where possible.
There is a lift, with braille, to all floors. Three rooms have stair access.
All rooms have telephones.

Fire Alarm

The fire alarm is a high pitched siren with many of the detectors having flashing lights.
Deafguards linked to the fire alarm system are available on request for those guests with impaired hearing.
Emergency evacuation plans are available in each room on the back of the door. Please ensure you make yourself familiar with these for your own safety.
For those with mobility issues please inform reception on arrival who will make a note, so we can add this to our evacuation procedure.

Additional Information

All information such as menus, bedroom information and tariffs can be printed in larger fonts if so required. Service dogs are accepted at the hotel by prior arrangement. Mobility scooters can be hired from the front desk. Further specialist equipment can be hired from a local mobility shop e.g. raised toilet seat, just ask prior to booking or on the front desk.
