At the Abbey Lawn Hotel we aim to offer high levels of hospitality to all our guests. We hope you will find this access information useful and that it helps to make your visit an enjoyable one.

We are aware that everyone’s needs are different, so if there is any detail you are looking for that is not covered in the information below, then please do get in touch and we will be happy to help. And of course, our friendly and experienced team will be on hand to assist you at any point during your stay with us.

Directions to the hotel

By car: Once you exit the M5. Follow the A380 towards Newton Abott. When you reach the flyover, go straight on along the South Devon Expressway and turn left at the end onto Riviera Way and follow straight on to Newton Road. As you pass Torre train station (on your right) turn left at the lights. Once you pass Kwik Fit (on your left), turn right onto South Street and continue onto Belgrave road. Go straight on at the traffic lights and Scarborough road is on your left hand side. Our postcode is TQ2 5UQ.

By rail or bus: Torquay train station is located outside the centre of the main town. By foot it is a 15-20 minute walk to the hotel up a slight hill. There is also a taxi rank located conveniently by the train station.
The bus stops on Belgrave Road at the end of Scarborough Road where the hotel is situated.

Some General Points on Access

The entrance at the front of the hotel has no steps unless you are parked in the carpark where there are 3 steps to the hotel.
Our Restaurant has 2 steps.
Our coffee shop, bar and lounge areas are all on one level and are accessible from the main entrance.
The hotel is spread over four floors with lift access to all floors.
Parking is at the front of the hotel.

When you arrive at the hotel

There is free parking available at the front of the hotel in our car park and on the road.
There are steps and ramp access to the hotel from the carpark.
Porters will be on hand to help with luggage for arrivals and departures, from both coach and cars.

Our Reception Area

The floor is carpeted and well lit.
The reception area is all on one level, with a lift to the floors through the double doors on your left, as you pass the reception desk.
Our staff are always available to help you with check-in.

Public Areas

The lift serves all floors of the hotel including the lower ground floor where we have our games room, gardens and pool.
There are 4 steps to the games room and pool.
Changing rooms have lockers for personal items and towels are available within the pool area.
Background music does play, albeit at a low level.
There is nightly entertainment in the grand ballroom which also has a bar.
All doors in these areas are on auto closures connected to the fire alarm system.

Accommodation

There are 3 disabled access rooms, with wet rooms located on the ground floor, these are accessible via the portable ramp. Please make a member of staff aware if you need to use the ramp.
We can provide raised toilet seat and bath aids.
There is a lift, with braille, to all floors.

Fire Alarm

The fire alarm is a high pitched siren with many of the detectors having flashing lights.
Deafguards linked to the fire alarm system are available on request for those guests with impaired hearing.
Emergency evacuation plans are available in each room on the back of the door. Please ensure you make yourself familiar with these for your own safety.
For those with mobility issues please inform reception on arrival who will make a note, so we can add this to our evacuation procedure.

Additional Information

All information such as menus, bedroom information and tariffs can be printed in larger fonts if so required. Small dogs are accepted at the hotel, larger service dogs are accepted by prior arrangement. Mobility scooters can be hired from a local provider, please contact the hotel prior to arrival to arrange. Further specialist equipment can be hired from a local mobility shop e.g. raised toilet seat, just ask prior to booking or on the front desk.
