Organising your Bowls Matches in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and the Isle of Wight
Each county association has slightly different rules for booking and accreditation, summarised below. Average rink fees in 2010 are £12-16 in all resorts offered.
Newquay/Cornwall
There are at least 17 clubs within 45 minutes of the Barrowfield Hotel, all with changing facilities, and bars. In order to tour Cornwall permission is required from the County Bowls Administrator, which we can apply for. Once permission has been granted, you can then apply to the clubs for fixtures directly, or Daish’s can do this on your behalf.
Torquay/Devon
Devon is unusual in the fact that you do not need the permission of the county to tour Devon. This can be arranged with the clubs directly. There are several Bowls Clubs in the three Torbay towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, with more in neighbouring towns and villages of Teignmouth, Totnes, Marldon and Newton Abbot.
Shanklin, Isle of Wight
There are only 9 Green Bowls clubs on the Isle of Wight. As green space is limited, they cannot always accommodate requests to tour. All tour fixtures are arranged and shared with the island clubs by the county administrator. (We can contact the administrator on your behalf.) May and September are the busiest months for touring sides.
Bournemouth/Dorset
Bournemouth is unlike the other 3 destinations as there are two associations to contact – one for Bournemouth (Hampshire) and one to play elsewhere in Dorset. There are many clubs to choose from – local clubs in Bournemouth, as well as in towns such as Swanage, Dorchester, Christchurch and Weymouth and the New Forest. All of these are easily accessible from the Bournemouth Sands hotel.
